Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1 or Algebra 2
Supplies: Binder, notebook, graph paper, pencils, ruler, protractor, compass, dry erase markers, and a scientific calculator.
Texts: Geometry: Reasoning, Measuring, Applying by Larson Boswell Stiff, Mc Dougal Littell and Worked-Out Solution Key
Course Description: This is a one year geometry course in which students will investigate reasoning and proofs, the properties of parallel lines, triangles, right triangles and trigonometry, polygons, similarity, circles, area, surface area, volume, and transformational geometry. Students will also learn and demonstrate basic geometric constructions. See attached scope and sequence for a more detailed list of concepts.
Teacher Availability: I am available every Tue. and Thur. morning during Math Lab from 8:10-9:00. I can also be reached by email.
Attendance: Regular attendance is expected and necessary. Students are expected to be active participants in class. Class participation will account for 10% of your overall grade.
Assigned Work: Practice problems will be assigned each class period and will be due the following class period. Students are expected to show all work on scratch paper. Homework will account for 15% of your grade.
Tests: Tests will count for 25% of your grade. Tests will be given on an individual basis. Once you have mastered approximately three objectives, as evidenced by your practice, you will be given a test.
Objectives Mastered: The number of objectives you master this school year will account for 50% of your final grade. There are over 150 objectives for this course. Any student who masters all objectives will be given special recognition.
Math Lab: Students who need intervention may be required to go to Math Lab until they are back on track. Math lab is an opportunity for students to get the extra help they need to be successful. Most students will need some extra help at one time or another throughout the year.
