Build Your Own Home Library Collection

Books Are Fun is a company that sells books at a discount to teachers and schools.  There is usually a display in the library once a month.  Please feel free to browse through the item and place and order.                 Please make your checks to Books Are Fun.  PERL earns free books based on your purchases.

By the 25th of each month you may place orders for Scholastic books for all ages. Checks should be made out to Scholastic.

KTL's Reading Incentives

In addition to the ongoing 85% Club drawing for AR quiz scores, PERL features seasonal incentives.  Your child can earn AR points to qualify for one or both of the semester trips.  The last date to qualify and the date of the trip is posted in the PERL library. Your child can spend AR points at PERL and still qualify for the trip.

Students in grades K-6 can also earn pizzas through the Pizza Hut Book-It program and a trip toSix Flags (Marine World or Magic Mountain) through a Weekly Reader program.  Time is limited for these incentives.  Ask your advisor for details.

 PERL Policies

August and May are curriculum distribution months at PERL.  Your student's textbooks are checked out to you for the entire year.  Other PERL items are available for a four-week check out from September through April.  (Videos are on loan for only two weeks.)  In addition to thousands of volumes of fiction and nonfiction books, PERL carries Weekly Reader student newspapers, Saxon Math videos, Math Safari and GeoSafari electronic learning games, and Jim Weiss storytelling tapes and CD's for schooling on the go!

 Parent Educational Resource Library Policies

I. Mission Statement

The mission of P.E.R.L. is to provide families of kindergarten through eighth grade students with access to educational resources as well as frequent assessments including STAR Math and Reading, and Accelerated Reader.

II. Who May Use the Library

A. The library will serve all families enrolled at Keyes to Learning Charter School.
B. The use of the library may be denied for due cause. Such cause may be failure to return library materials, or destruction of library property.

III. Patron Responsibilities and Conduct

Young children:

P.E.R.L. encourages visits by young children and it is our desire to make this important visit both memorable and enjoyable for the child. Library staff is not expected to assume responsibility for the care of unsupervised children in the library.

Therefore, it is library policy that all children under the age of six must be accompanied by a parent or designated responsible person while in the library.

Disruptive children:

Children of all ages are encouraged to use the library. The library staff realizes that the library will be noisier at busy times and that children by nature can cause more commotion. However, children (whether with parents or not) who are being continually disruptive will be given a warning that he/she must settle down or will be asked to leave the library. If after a second warning the child continues to be disruptive, he/she will be asked to leave the library. If the child needs to contact a parent, they may do so and then wait with a staff person until the parent arrives.

IV. Circulation Policy

A. Registration

All borrowers must be registered in the Athena library system in order  to borrow library materials.

B. Loan periods

If the material is not returned within a designated period, a bill will be sent for the material with the cost of replacement of the material and a service charge for processing, cataloging and postage. Patrons who have been sent an overdue notice shall be denied borrowing privileges until those overdue materials are returned or paid for if lost and/or damaged.

F. Damaged materials

If materials are damaged so as to be judged by the library as being unsuitable for the collection, the patron must pay the replacement cost.
